“For Secrets of the Machine God, Fatshark needed music for the Mechanicus order and we decided to use a vocoder to represent the machine spirit element in this music. So I went all in on a vintage Roland vocoder and created a spiritual-infused vocal performance for the score. I wanted the track ‘The Machine Spirit’ to sound like a spiritual seance of some kind.”
“‘Derelict Research’ is a combat track designed for intense boss and combat moments,” explained Kyd. “It embraces my Darktide sound palette of using vintage synths to help focus on an ‘aged’ and ‘lived in’ world. The organic instruments and step sequencers are all a bit out of control and I generally try to tame these to a point where it sounds like they are almost about to lose sync with the rest of the music.”
“When assembling these performances on the computer I use a lot of plugins to get each performance just right. So the electronic instruments are all real, many of them performed live.”
